Volunteering With Ohio’s Hospice was a Divine Calling for Pat Wourms
Pat Wourms was attending church 30 years ago, when something caught her eye. It wasn’t a biblical verse, but an announcement in the church bulletin seeking volunteers for Ohio’s Hospice. She responded to the call for volunteers, and it has been a life-changing experience.
Pat has been a volunteer for 30 years. She was a nurse and was drawn to becoming a volunteer.
“This little lady I was visiting said, ‘it is so nice you can sit here and talk to me.’ I know being a nurse, that you often do not have time for that,” Pat said. “When she said that I thought, ‘wow, this is the icing on the cake,’ for being able to do that as a volunteer.”
Even when Pat and her husband moved to Trenton, near Cincinnati, she continued driving to Dayton to volunteer.
“One day I was visiting a woman when Covid happened and I started making a homemade card for her every week,” Wourms said. “I have been doing that since 2020-21.”
Pat still loves being an Ohio’s Hospice volunteer.
If you want to just be yourself and make a difference in someone’s day, Pat says being an Ohio’s Hospice volunteer allows you to do that.
“The staff is also so great to work with,” she said. “They answer all of your questions and make you feel so appreciated.”
Ohio’s Hospice extends our gratitude to Pat Wourms for her many years of support to our mission!
