The Right Care at the Right Time: Innovative Care Solutions Supports Patient Care Whenever It’s Needed
Gene Knaack’s family wanted him to experience something special during his end-of-life care with Ohio’s Hospice. They created a unique family outing for him involving a sightseeing cruise onboard the iconic Cleveland ship Goodtime III. Our mobile care unit team made his family’s wishes come true.
When Hurricane Helene hit the Southeast region of the United States, the powerful remnants of the storm made its way to the Miami Valley area, impacting our patients and families. Without hesitation, our durable medical equipment team leapt into action and made sure those in need of oxygen had it.

Innovative Care Solutions (ICS), a service of Ohio’s Hospice, focuses on patient transport and delivery of durable medical equipment (DME) that enhances patient care and supports our not-for-profit mission in the more than 60 counties we serve.
Shane Williams, vice president of ICS and Supply Chain, said, “When your loved one has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness or injury, reliable and far-reaching services can make a big difference in their quality of life. We asked ourselves, ‘how could we better serve our patients and communities?’ Our answer was Innovative Care Solutions.”
Our Mobile Care Unit (MCU) program stands as a cornerstone of our innovative approach to supportive hospice care transportation. With specialized mobile care units operating throughout Ohio, we transform what would be urgent care needs and final wishes into cherished memories.
These specialized units facilitate transport from hospitals to Ohio’s Hospice inpatient care centers, from inpatient care centers to patients’ homes, and from patients’ homes to nursing facilities.
We also ensure timely access to necessary medical equipment. Our structure streamlines the delivery of DME to patients and facilitates and handles prompt adjustments or replacements as needs change.
These services contribute to the comfort and care of the patients we have the privilege to serve.
Ohio’s Hospice services are available whenever you need us. You can call to speak with a nurse on our 24-hour support line at 800.653.4490 or receive support from our extended-hours team. Grief support services are available at no cost to our patients, their families, and members of our community.
