StoryCorps and Celebrating Life Stories
Join us as we participate in a national initiative sponsored by StoryCorps to listen and to Celebrate Life Stories!
As part of the mission of serving our patients and their families, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton believes that every patient has a unique life story and that we can help capture glimpses of it. Visitors to the Dayton Hospice House may be familiar with our interactive display, Story Garden, where stories shared by patients whom we’ve had the privilege of serving can live on. Whether sharing stories during Veteran pinning ceremonies, or through interactions with clinical staff, or by spending time with volunteers, our patients and their families are encouraged each day to celebrate life stories with each other and with us.
StoryCorps‘s program “The Great Thanksgiving Listen” invites taking time to interview our loved ones using the StoryCorps app and to “help create an archive of the wisdom of humanity.”
Through the StoryCorps initiative, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton wishes to encourage every generation to take time on Thanksgiving, and every day, to record interviews with their friends and families in celebrating life stories.
StoryCorps founder David Isay shares this:
“I believe that the act of being listened to can be transformative in people’s lives.
What The Great Thanksgiving Listen is about is giving people the chance to have conversations and be listened to. In that act of sitting with a loved one and asking them who they are, what they have learned in life, and how they want to be remembered, you remind them how much their lives matter.”
We couldn’t agree more.
