Ohio’s Hospice Volunteers Celebrate 1 Million Hour Milestone
In a remarkable display of compassion and dedication, the volunteers of Ohio’s Hospice have surpassed 1 million hours of service in southwest Ohio. This extraordinary milestone underscores the vital role these selfless individuals play in providing superior care to patients and families across the state.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment and heartfelt passion that each of our volunteers brings to their work,” said Craig Schrolucke, media coordinator at Ohio’s Hospice. “Throughout the challenges of recent years, our volunteers have remained steadfast in their support, ensuring that we could continue fulfilling our mission of delivering exceptional hospice services to those in need.”
Rooted in the early volunteer-driven origins of the hospice movement, Ohio’s Hospice has maintained a strong and vibrant volunteer program that is essential to the organization’s success. Volunteers contribute a significant portion of the care and services provided, fulfilling a requirement set by Medicare for hospice organizations.
“Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization, and we are deeply grateful for the countless hours of service they have so selflessly provided,” said Maureen Swarts, manager of volunteer services at Ohio Hospice. “Their compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our patients and families have been instrumental in our ability to remain a strong, sustainable presence in the communities we serve.”
Even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many volunteer programs were put on hold, the volunteers of Ohio’s Hospice continued to step up, ensuring that the organization could maintain its essential services without interruption.
As Ohio’s Hospice looks to the future, the organization is committed to further expanding its volunteer base, recruiting and training more individuals who share the same passion for providing exceptional care and support to those facing life-limiting illnesses.
“We are truly honored to stand alongside our remarkable volunteers, who are the heart and soul of our organization,” Swartz said. “Their contributions are invaluable, and we look forward to continuing to grow and thrive, powered by the extraordinary spirit of our volunteer family.”
