Ohio’s Hospice Nursing Honor Guard Pays Tribute To Joann Cory
For Joann Cory, having the privilege and honor of providing her patients and their families with superior care and superior services was a lifelong commitment. The Nursing Honor Guard of Ohio’s Hospice honors nurses who are in hospice care with Ohio’s Hospice. Recently, the Guard honored Joann Cory.

Dressed in traditional and historical uniforms comprised of a blue and red cape, white dress and cap, the Guard was present at Vancrest of New Carlisle to honor Joann for her many years of service in the nursing profession.
Nursing is giving of oneself to enhance the lives of others. We join today to honor you, Joann, for your commitment to caring,” said Nursing Honor Guard member, Missy Studebaker. “We want to formally acknowledge your many years of service as a nurse and to note that your accomplishments are measured in the lives you affected through dedication and perseverance.”
Joann attended nursing school at JVS in Piqua. After graduating, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse on May 28, 1993.
She worked in various extended care facilities in the area, including Dorothy Love and Fairhaven. For most of her career, she worked in memory care units. She loved caring for the elderly.
Joann treated her residents like they were family and developed special bonds with them. She devoted much of her time and energy to her nursing career, as it was extremely important to her. She provided excellent care to others and retired in 2010.
“Thank you, Joann, for your legacy of caring, and for all you have given to the nursing profession,” Missy said.
Since its kickoff during National Nurses Week in 2016, the Nursing Honor Guard has performed more than 200 tributes at the bedside of nurses who are in the care of Ohio’s Hospice.
Dressed in traditional and historical uniforms comprised of a blue and red cape, white dress and cap, the Guard honored Cory for her commitment to the nursing profession. The Guard reads the Nightengale Pledge during the ceremony.
