Miami East Girls’ Basketball Team Raises Over $20,000 for Ohio’s Hospice Through Hoops for Hope Initiative

The Miami East High School girls’ basketball team has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to community service, raising over $20,000 for Ohio’s Hospice through their annual Hoops for Hope basketball game. This achievement showcases the power of youth engagement in supporting the community.

Hoops for Hope Thank You Miami East Basketball Team

Under Head Coach Kevin Evans, the team has greatly increased its fundraising efforts over the past two years. In their most recent event, the team raised $8,300, following last year’s total of $9,700. This marks a substantial increase from the average of $2,500 raised annually before Evans took the helm two years ago.

“We believe Ohio’s Hospice is an extremely worthy cause,” Evans said. “As a coach, I believe it’s important to instill in my players the importance of giving back to our community. Many of us are given so much, but few give back. The Hoops for Hope basketball game is a way to teach this valuable lesson and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

The Hoops for Hope basketball game is the centerpiece of the team’s community-related activities held throughout the season. These initiatives aim to engage the athletes in supporting local community members and foster a sense of social responsibility among the young players.

To achieve their fundraising goals, the team organizes various events leading up to the main game, including bake sales, car washes, and community outreach programs. These efforts not only raise money but also increase awareness about Ohio’s Hospice’s important work.

“What a difference that has made for so many of our patients,” said a spokesperson for Ohio’s Hospice. “The dedication and enthusiasm of these young athletes is truly inspiring. Their support helps us provide essential care and services to those when it matters most.”

The success of the Hoops for Hope initiative has created a sense of pride and accomplishment among the players. Evans noted, “The girls take great pride in helping out the community and Ohio’s Hospice, and I am very proud of their efforts. They’re learning that they can make a significant impact in their community through teamwork and dedication.”

The Miami East girls’ basketball team’s commitment to Ohio’s Hospice serves as an inspiring example of young athletes making a significant impact in their community, proving that success can be measured both on and off the court.
