Expertise Matters: Two Ohio’s Hospice Physicians Secure Recertification by American Osteopathic Association
Congratulations to Dr. Lisa Maurer and Dr. Colleen Pema! Both Ohio’s Hospice physicians recently were recertified by the American Osteopathic Association in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
The recertification provides certified physicians like Drs. Maurer and Pema with a process to continually assess and improve their skillset. In addition, it helps to assure patients and the community that certified physicians are being assessed through reliable and valid measures.
Dr. Maurer, vice president of medical affairs, joined Ohio’s Hospice in 2012. She received her undergraduate education from the University of Dayton and her graduate degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a Family Medicine internship and residency at Doctors Hospital.
“We appreciate the generosity and support of Ohio’s Hospice in helping us to achieve this goal,” Dr. Maurer said. “The IT and Education departments were instrumental in allowing us to meet the requirements to take the test remotely. It was a team effort!”
Dr. Pema, team physician, has been with Ohio’s Hospice since 2008. She received her graduate degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Doctors Hospital. Dr. Pema currently serves patients at our 12-bed inpatient care center at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
“I would like to thank Dr. Maurer and Dr. Pema for taking this step to help ensure high quality care for our patients,” said Renee Sparks, executive regional vice president at Ohio’s Hospice. “Your commitment to the process helps instill trust in those we serve. Congratulations on this achievement!”
Ohio’s Hospice takes an evidence-based approach to providing expert medical care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury. “The accomplishments of Dr. Maurer and Dr. Pema is a powerful leadership example of how we’re continuing to advance clinical expertise and professional knowledge in hospice and palliative care,” said Kent Anderson, CEO of Ohio’s Hospice. “We continue to rely on best practices, clinical research and current science to provide world-class care. Congratulations to Dr. Maurer and Dr. Pema on this great achievement.”
