Celebrating Refresh of Carole's Cafe

Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton Celebrates Refresh of Carole’s Café With Grand Opening

Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton recently celebrated the grand opening of Carole’s Café after the café underwent a refresh at the Hospice House to enhance the dining experience for family members and staff. The refresh includes an improved layout and service setup. A new panini press and sandwich bar were added, along with new coolers, counters and displays.

The café provides a variety of fresh options and features several new items on the menu, including breakfast sandwiches, panini sandwiches, salads, wraps, flatbread pizzas, a variety of soups, parfaits, and various desserts. The café is open from 7 am-3 pm for breakfast and lunch and grab-and-go items. From 3-7 pm, items will be available in the grab-and-go displays.

“We want to provide our patients’ family members and our staff with a variety of fresh, delicious food,” said Jerri Hollis, hospitality manager at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. “The additions of the panini press, turbo oven, new steam table, induction soup pots, and open grab-and-go refrigerators will help us enhance the dining experience.”

Carole’s Café is named after Carole Seymour, a former patient of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. After she died in 2005, her family donated the funds for the first remodel of the café. During her life, she developed a passion for a wide assortment of culinary tastes and flavors. She was self-taught and developed her cooking skills in many different ethnic styles including Thai, French, country, Mexican, Italian and Jewish.

“We’re privileged to be able to continue to honor Carole and her passion for cooking with the recent refresh of Carole’s Café,” Hollis said. “Just as Carole offered her family and friends a wide assortment of culinary tastes and flavors, we are offering our families and staff a variety of breakfast and lunch options.”

As part of its mission to provide superior care and superior services to patients and families, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton is refreshing and updating its Hospice House. Originally built in 1990, the building and gardens were thoughtfully designed to provide serenity and comfort to patients and visiting family members.

Throughout the refresh, patients and family members will continue to experience the same peaceful atmosphere at the Hospice House. Each patient room at the Hospice House has a view of the beautifully landscaped gardens. Outside each window is a planter box filled with flowers and greenery. Patients and families can watch woodpeckers, finches and hummingbirds in the gardens.

Progress on the refresh has been made throughout the Hospice House. Rooms in several wings have been painted. Wallpaper has been added, and new flooring has been installed. Furniture has been updated, and new 55-inch TVs have been added. In addition to the patient rooms, the coffee area has been refreshed. Plans also are underway to update the dining room within the next few weeks.

“This is part of our commitment to our community to keep our Hospice House up to date so our patients and families can receive care in a state-of-the art Hospice House,” said Kim Vesey, general manager of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton and executive vice president of Ohio’s Hospice.
