American Pride: Celebrating Veteran Bob Comstock For His Service To America

Air Force Veteran, Bob Comstock, was honored by Ohio’s Hospice in a pinning ceremony dedicated to celebrating his selfless effort to serve his country.

As part of the American Pride® Veteran Care by Ohio’s Hospice program, every Veteran is invited to participate in an honor ceremony. Veterans receive a special pin that has the words “American Pride.” Pinning’s are conducted by a Veteran volunteer. Upon completion of the pinning, Veteran volunteers salute the Veteran and thank them for their service.

Honored to recognize Air Force Veteran, Bob Comstock

The Vietnam Veteran, who served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1987, ending his service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, was joined by his wife, Sandy, and son, Ricky, and approximately 30 family and friends at the ceremony.

Comstock received an American Pride pin, a Vietnam Veteran Service Award, a throw blanket made by a volunteer, and a star from a flag that has been flown over the United States with a special poem attached.

Sandy was honored with a pin that states, “American Pride Dedicated Military Caregiver.”

She called the event, “a blessing,” and the entire experience was something the family will never forget.

“December 20, I received a call from a Veteran volunteer with Ohio’s Hospice asking if we would like to have a pinning ceremony for Bob,” Sandy Comstock said. “I asked what that means. He explained it would be about a 15-minute ceremony to honor Bob’s 20 years of Military service in the Air Force.”

Bob and Sandy both agreed that it would be something special and the family was eager to participate in the Ohio’s Hospice pinning ceremony.

“I had no clue what a blessing this would be for us,” she said. “I prayed he would have a good day and realize what the ceremony was all about.”

With his health failing, Sandy wondered how he would even get ready to attend the ceremony. He had a couple of tough days right before the event but found strength to participate.

“My prayers were definitely answered,” Sandy said. “He knew people and showed emotion during the presentation. What a blessing. The presenter at the ceremony was so happy to see so many people there to honor Bob’s service.”

“Thank you to Ohio’s Hospice and all the friends and Family that came,” Sandy said. “We are blessed to have each of you in our life.”

She said her and Bob are still relishing the pinning ceremony performed by Ohio’s Hospice.

“Our prayers were answered big time!” Sandy said. “We are sitting at home looking at the pictures taken and talking about what a nice day it was,” she said. “Thank you all for your support.”

Veterans deserve to be recognized for their valor and celebrated for their service.  American Pride® Veteran Care by Ohio’s Hospice is dedicated to honoring veterans who are facing life-limiting illnesses.

Ohio’s Hospice recognizes the importance of honoring the service of our nation’s Veterans. We are honored and privileged to celebrate the lives of Veterans and honor them through participation in Veteran recognition ceremonies.
