Ohio’s Hospice Offers STNA Scholarship Program
Ohio’s Hospice plans to offer a scholarship program for those who have a passion for hospice care and would like to become a state tested nursing assistant (STNA). The program includes classroom learning in addition to hands-on clinical training in a long-term care setting. The scholarship program will be offered after COVID-19.
The not-for-profit hospice organization will pay for the cost of the four-week course and the STNA test. Ohio’s Hospice also will pay the individual while they attend the course. Upon completion of the course and passing the STNA test, a permanent job offer will be made, and the pay rate will be increased.
“Our STNAs are called personal care specialists,” said Brandi Barlow, vice president of administration at Ohio’s Hospice. “We value our personal care specialists because of their expertise in taking care of the patient’s needs with dignity, compassion and empathy.”
Ohio’s Hospice is seeking individuals who reflect the values of Ohio’s Hospice — servant leadership, compassion, kindness and honesty. Personal care specialists at Ohio’s Hospice provide quality nursing assistance to patients, assist the family with the care of the patient and work with a team that relies on their input because of the close relationship with the patient.
“Our personal care specialists impact many lives. They provide the essential daily, hands-on care in homes, nursing homes and inpatient settings,” Barlow said. “As professionals, our personal care specialists are instrumental in promoting and safeguarding the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of the patients and their families.”
Ohio’s Hospice is a partnership of mission-driven, not-for-profit hospices in Ohio committed to a shared vision of strengthening and preserving community-based hospices. Affiliates of Ohio’s Hospice include: Community Care Hospice, Hospice of Central Ohio, Ohio’s Community Mercy Hospice, Ohio’s Hospice at United Church Homes, Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, Ohio’s Hospice Loving Care, Ohio’s Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County and Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.
“Our mission is to celebrate the lives of those we have the privilege of serving by providing superior care and superior services to each patient and family,” Barlow said. “Our personal care specialists are committed to making a difference in the lives of our patients and families every day.”
