Ohio’s Hospice Bouquet of Recognition Honors Superior Care, Superior Service by Staff
Outstanding members of the Ohio’s Hospice staff are recognized every quarter with the Bouquet of Recognition Awards for going above and beyond in advocating for and serving patients.
Charles Strawser, RN, Daisy Award
Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County RN Charles Strawser was recognized for being a strong patient advocate and going above and beyond to ensure patient comfort in the DAISY Award nomination submitted by an Upper Valley Medical Center nursing colleague. “As a nurse myself, advocating for patients and their families is a necessary part of nursing, ICU/PCU Team Leader Heidi Hittepole wrote. “On two separate occasions, I had patients that needed symptom management in the inpatient unit and no intake nurse available in a timely manner. Charles went above and beyond for these patients that desperately needed comfort at end of life. He went out of his way to make sure both of these patients received admission to the inpatient unit in a timely manner.”
“As a nurse of 17 years,” she continued, “I know that if my patients or any patient needs comfort care at the end of life, Charles will do what it takes to ensure that happens. He puts the patient and family first, as it should be.”
Thank you to Charles for always advocating for patients and for serving our Hospice mission.
Janet Dickens, SW, Tulip Award
“I hardly know where to begin to express my gratitude to my social worker, Janet,” wrote the patient nominating Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton’s Janet Dickens for the Bouquet of Recognition Tulip Award. “She has helped me with planning one of the most difficult situations in life – my final arrangements.”
The hospice patient expressed appreciation for Janet’s “kindness, compassion, calmness, and reassurance,” adding “Please recognize her for an extraordinary patient experience.”
We are grateful to have Janet as a member of our hospice team to serve our patients with such superior care and superior service.
Latisha Hawkins, STNA, Sunflower Award
The daughter of a patient at our Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton Hospice House location nominated Patient Care Specialist Tisha Hawkins to thank her for her compassion and care. “Tisha really was extremely above and beyond,” the nomination reads. “She had such compassion and her heart was in her job…she showed heartfelt compassion for mom, and in this very, very difficult, sad and mentally and physically exhausting time, Tisha truly treated myself and my sister as if we were members of her own family.”
Congratulations to Tisha and deep appreciation for her service to our patients, their families, and our hospice mission.
Doug Arnett is a member of the technology support team at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton and was nominated by a member of the nursing staff for his “exceptional kindness, compassion, honesty and servant leadership.”
“There are many examples that I could give of Doug going above and beyond to help the nurses in the field,” she wrote. “One stands out for me: We recently had two upgrades for a software program and many of the staff had difficulty synchronizing. after the updates…after seeing the instructions following the second upgrade, I knew that I would have difficulty following the multistep instructions to successfully synchronize and still see my patients in a timely manner on Monday morning. Doug offered to come in on a Sunday morning to take remote control of my laptop to make the upgrades and synchronize. His help enabled me to start work on time on Monday. Doug is always helpful, never makes me feel bad about my deficiencies and always ends every communication with the message “Take Care.”
Doug’s support for every member of the Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton team helps assure their ability to deliver superior care and superior service to our patients and families. We deeply appreciate all he does in support of our hospice mission.
