Compassion Fatigue/Vicarious Trauma (When Caring Hurts)

FreeNovember marks the observance of Hospice and Palliative Care Month, and Ohio’s Hospice affiliates are actively engaged in offering education about hospice and palliative care to other clinicians who care for those facing life-limiting illnesses. Continuing education credits are available for nurses and social workers on a variety of topics being presented by Ohio’s Hospice staff members.
This session’s topic is called “Compassion Fatigue/Vicarious Trauma (When Caring Hurts),” presented by Mark Curtis, APRN, Innovative Care Solutions. As a result of this conference, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the parts of the brain affected by trauma
- Identify signs and symptoms of compassion, fatigue and vicarious trauma
- Identify healthy coping strategies to prevent or decrease the negative effects of compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
