Ohio’s Hospice Travel Nurses: Bringing Superior Care Where Needed Most
Travel nurses at Ohio’s Hospice play a vital role in delivering superior care and superior services across the state of Ohio. These dedicated healthcare professionals support our not-for-profit, community-based mission by providing hospice-certified nursing care where staffing needs are highest.
Our Travel Nurses help fulfill our mission by working where staffing needs are very high for a 12-week rotation before moving on to their next assignment.
According to Senior Director of Education & Staff Development, Julie Wickline, they have supported Ohio’s Hospice in many different roles over the past few years.
She said current Ohio’s Hospice Travel Nurses have served in the following roles: Home Care RN Care Manager, Home Care RN Team Nurse, Hospice House/IPU Staff Nurse, Admissions Nurse, and Extended Hours Nurse.
“They have worked in these roles in all three of our hospice clinical care regions,” Wickline said.
The number one qualification for the RN Travel position is the willingness to serve where most needed and be willing to travel to help best meet those needs. This often includes arranging for housing in the region currently assigned.
“Our team of internal travel nurses also need to be extremely adaptable, meet people easily and well, and be exceptionally skilled clinically,” Wickline said.
She added that Ohio’s Hospice is seeking qualified candidates to fill Travel Nurse positions.
When available, these positions can be applied for the same as any other open position. Currently, Ohio’s Hospice has one open Travel Nurse position.
“We currently have six full-time Travel Nurses and one onboarding with us,” Wickline explained. “Our Travel Team is made up of some incredible nurses.”
All our nurses are certified as hospice and palliative nurses (CHPN), and many serve as preceptors for new nurse teammates.
“Feedback from their acting Team Leaders express appreciation for their excellent communication skills, exceptional clinical skills, and never-ending dedication to our mission,” Wickline said.
The current group of Travel Nurses stay very busy, with the number of their travel assignments in the past 3 years coming out to a little over 45, equaling over 1,800 hours.
“I want to recognize all six of them – Victoria Wilson, Brent Munn, Bucky Marlow, Crystal Pepin, Rob McFee, and Anthony Bayne – for their adaptability, dedication, and striving for our mission every day,” Wickline said.
As a not-for-profit, community-based organization, Ohio’s Hospice relies on dedicated healthcare professionals like our travel nurses to fulfill our mission of providing superior care and superior services to each patient and family we have the privilege of serving.
