Ohio’s Hospice Hosts Free Camp for Children and Teens Coping with Loss
Ohio’s Hospice announces the 14th annual You’re Not Alone youth grief and bereavement camp, which will take place from July 8-11, 2024, at Camp Wanake in Beach City. The free camp is designed to provide support and resources for children and teens ages 7-17 who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling, or significant loved one.
“Losing a loved one is a challenging experience, especially for children and teens,” said Kelsie Gunnoe, a representative of Ohio’s Hospice. “Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where they can express their feelings, connect with others who have experienced similar losses, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.”
Throughout the four-day camp, participants will engage in various activities led by professional grief counselors and trained volunteers. These activities include group support sessions, age-appropriate outdoor activities, and an exceptional memorial service to honor the memory of their loved ones.
“One of the most valuable aspects of the You’re Not Alone camp is the opportunity for children and teens to connect with others who truly understand what they are going through,” Gunnoe said. “By sharing their experiences and emotions, they can begin to heal and find hope for the future.”
The You’re Not Alone youth bereavement camp is offered free of charge to all participants, thanks to the generous support of the community. Transportation is also available upon request.
Interested individuals should contact Kelsie Gunnoe at KGunnoe@OhiosHospice.org or 330.556.9379 by June 24 to reserve a space. For more information about the camp and programs or to schedule a presentation for a group, please contact Gunnoe.
