Staff Milestones: Lori Igel Celebrates 20 Years With Ohio’s Hospice
Lori Igel, president of the Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, celebrates 20 years with Ohio’s Hospice this year.
Prior to joining Ohio’s Hospice, Lori worked for a law firm that specialized in intellectual property law and managed their database, while volunteering for nonprofit organizations. She discovered a passion for philanthropy and looked for career options in the field that fulfilled her: not-for-profits and charitable giving.
“I feel the profession chose me. My father introduced me to philanthropy at a young age,” Lori said. “As I volunteered as an adult, I saw the impact my skill set brought to organizations. When I was offered the opportunity to share my passion with others to create a way to sustain our mission, I could not imagine doing anything else.”
In March of 1997, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton cared for Lori’s uncle, Joe, and her family experienced firsthand how hospice services not only cared for the patient, but also embraced and showed compassion to the whole family unit.
“After our first experience, we were all in. My father started the first Bowl for Hospice, in memory of his brother, Joe. That event had a run of 23 years from 1998 to 2021 and generated over $1 million dollars for patient care,” Lori said. “After Uncle Joe, many family members were touched by Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. The difference that utilizing our services made with our family inspired me to ensure every family that wanted hospice care should have access and never have to worry about if they could afford it. The rest is history.”
Lori believes Ohio’s Hospice’s mission makes the community a better place and cannot imagine a community without end-of-life care.
“We have the privilege to work for an organization that not only evaluates you on merit but weighs kindness as well. That speaks volumes,” Lori said. “I believe I have the best job ever! I can help others support our mission in ways that are meaningful while providing funds for today and for the future.”
