Craft Group Gives the Gift of Comfort
Lola Rowan has a “heart for hospice” and she gives it all to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. A former hospice volunteer with the local not-for-profit, Lola is now involved in creating patient comfort items for hospice with the Tipp City Senior Citizens Center craft group. “We have a wonderful group of ladies who have created crafts for years to support the Senior Center,” Lola explains. “They also have a heart for hospice, which just makes my day.”
The group is now crafting lap quilts, aromatherapy squares, neck pillows, walker bags and a variety of other items to comfort hospice patients. Lola says “it is a blessing for us to be able to make things that I know first hand are also a blessing to patients.”
Lola knows because she lost her husband to Alzheimer’s disease and the couple benefitted for the last six months of his life from care by Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. “Whenever I needed them, day or night, they were there,” Lola recalls. “I am so grateful and blessed to be able to give back for the support they gave to me.”
Lola has been active with the Senior Citizens craft group for about 12 years now, and served as an active volunteer with Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County for 11 years. Lola says the ladies of her craft group have a “passion to help.” It’s easy to recognize why Lola is such a great fit for the crafters group that continues to contribute every day to the quality of life of their community.
