Bouquet of Recognition 4th Quarter Honorees

Ohio’s Hospice Recognizes Staff With Bouquet of Recognition Awards for Fourth Quarter of 2021

Outstanding members of the Ohio’s Hospice staff are recognized each quarter with Bouquet of Recognition Awards of Excellence. Honorees personify the qualities found in the mission and vision of Ohio’s Hospice and are the foundation upon which a remarkable patient experience is built. These staff members consistently demonstrate excellence through their expertise and extraordinary compassionate support for patients and families. They are recognized as outstanding role models in the Ohio’s Hospice community. These are the recipients for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Sunflower Award

Brian Williams, personal care specialist at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, was nominated for the Sunflower Award by a teammate for his exceptional care of a patient.

The Sunflower Award honors personal care specialists who take care of a patient’s personal care needs with dignity, compassion and empathy. They provide quality nursing assistance to patients, assist patients’ families with care, and work with the interdisciplinary care team.

“Recently a patient came in whose wife could not provide end-of-life care for him. When he arrived in the inpatient unit, Brian took time to bathe and care for him that evening. The patient died in the early morning hours after his admission and Brian again took time to clean and arrange him peacefully,” said nominator Liz Morgan, RN care team coordinator at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. “This was the family’s last time to see him and their memory will be a sweet, peaceful memory rather than the pain and agony they witnessed at home. Brian is a strong personal care specialist who cares deeply about what he does and was able to give a grieving family the gift of peaceful closure.”

Congratulations to Brian on being recognized with the Sunflower Award and thanks to him for his support of the Ohio’s Hospice mission.

DAISY Award® – Alyssa Voskuhl

Ohio’s Hospice is proud to be a DAISY Award® partner, recognizing nurses with this special honor. At Ohio’s Hospice, DAISY Award honorees consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.

Alyssa Voskuhl, RN Hospice House/IPU at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, was nominated by the wife of a patient for her compassionate care.

“I was struggling with seeing my husband deteriorate and having a hard time deciding what to do with his medication. I was in tears when Alyssa started talking to me like not only my husband’s nurse but also my friend,” the patient’s wife wrote in the nomination form. “She explained the process to me and helped to calm me down. She is definitely in the right profession.  Any patient and family should be honored to have her treat their loved ones.”

Congratulations to Alyssa on being recognized with the DAISY Award and thanks to her for her commitment to the Ohio’s Hospice mission.

DAISY Award® – Shelby Mathias

Shelby Mathias, RN care manager with Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio, was recognized with the DAISY Award®, for providing exceptional patient care.

Shelby was nominated by two patient families. “Shelby was only with us a short time, but our family could not have asked for a better nurse in the last few days of our family member’s life,” the patient’s family member wrote on the nomination form. “I told Shelby her time with us was short, but her impact was huge. We appreciated her beyond words.”

Another patient family praised Shelby for the care she provided for their mother. “You and the staff were absolutely amazing,” the family member wrote on the nomination form. “I could not have asked for a better team to care for my mom during her last days. Words cannot express how wonderful you all were with my mom, my family and myself.”

Congratulations to Shelby on being recognized with the DAISY Award ® and thanks to her for her support of the Ohio’s Hospice mission.

Carnation Award

Katie Bottorff, community outreach liaison at Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, was awarded with the Carnation Award, which is given to mission support staff members for their commitment to the organization’s mission.

Katie was nominated by Jodi Howard, volunteer coordinator at Community Care Hospice and Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, for her support for her team and commitment to helping patients around the clock.

“Katie always goes above and beyond. I have been at events with Katie and seen how professional she is and how wonderfully she represents Ohio’s Hospice with her servant leadership, kindness and compassion for what hospice does,” Howard said. “She is deserving of recognition for all she does to grow our organization.”

Congratulations to Katie on being recognized with the Carnation Award and thanks to her for her support of the Ohio’s Hospice mission.
