More than 100 members of the community and 20 teams raised more than $50,000 for patient care and services at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton through the 2020 annual Remembrance Walk, which was held as a virtual event in October. Proceeds from the virtual event support the mission of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, a not-for-profit, community-based hospice serving the Dayton region since 1978.  

“This year has been unlike any other because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sydney Truax, event organizer. “The money raised shows that our community supports one another during tough times. In addition to our sponsors, I would like to thank all the participants for their support, understanding and patience during our first-ever virtual walk.”  

Because of the generosity of sponsors and participants, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton is able to provide support services that are not covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Proceeds raised from the event also help Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton provide grief support at no cost to anyone in the community; provide complementary services such as massage, music and art therapy; and provide palliative care to patients whose chronic disease compromises their quality of life. 

Celebration of Life signs were displayed around the Memorial Garden Pond at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Participants were able to view the signs at their leisure on Oct. 24.  

This year’s presenting sponsors were Coolidge Wall Co., L.P.A.; Detmer & Sons, Inc.; and Huntington Bank. Silver sponsors were Calvary Cemetery and Dodds Memorials. Bronze sponsors were Champion Apparel and Promotions, Inc.; David’s Cemetery; Kettering Health Network; and MetLife. The supporting sponsors were McAfee Heating and Air Conditioning and USI Insurance Services.  

Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, an affiliate of Ohio’s Hospice, is a not-for-profit hospice provider. Since 1978, it has served patients and families in the Dayton region in their homes, extended care and assisted living facilities, and the Hospice House location in Dayton. Grief support services are available to the entire community through the Pathways of Hope Grief Counseling Center.
